Ask the Master of the Harvest

The theme of the Gospel speaks about the time
of harvest of which we expect in our country soon. Harvest is a conclusion of
the work of the farmer. In Biblical language, harvest relates to the Last Judgment
where our life will be evaluated.
The time of the presence of Jesus Christ is the
time of grace and can not be missed. The Kingdom of heaven is at hand. But
the conclusion is also at hand, there will be harvest, judgment.
Harvest depends on the farmers’ care of the
crop. It is important to act, in order that the grain would not to be destroyed,
the people would not perish. Therefore it is needed that the Master would send out laborers for his harvest.
The Lord Jesus devoted fully to His mission of
bringing salvation: he was going, teaching, performing signs, forgiving sins
and healing. As a Good Shepherd, He looked with love at the crowds: at the people
who were tired but full of expectations. Desiring to offer salvation to all, our
Lord noticed the faces, not only of His contemporaries (people living two
thousand years ago in
This
compassion for the crowds preceding the institution of the Apostles, recalls
another compassion that we know from Mark’s Gospel, the pity of Jesus for the
hungry crowds that He miraculously fed signing the mystery of the Eucharist in
this way. Both these events of His pity are connected. The Lord Jesus wants the
servants who lead people to meeting with Him in the Eucharist would never be absent.
There are many baptized people
who live in spiritual and moral carelessness, far from the Word and
Sacraments that are the basis of the Christian life. However, our secular time in
which God has lost His first place in society calls for a higher sense. Without
Christ, it is not possible to live a full valuable life but only vegetate. Evil
that we experience bothers us daily. Selfishness, animosity and luxury dominate
over people. But, first of all, existential insecurity dominates people and
that is caused by the fact that the heart of man is unsatisfied without God. It
is still true that creation awaits with
eager expectation the revelation of the children of God. Who will show these people the way, who will
tell them the truth, who will bring them to the source of life?
We
need sacred ministers who are ordained to nourish the Church by the Word of God
and grace of Christ. We all are challenged to bring the care of cooperation in
God’s plan into our prayer: “So
ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his
harvest.“ In this aspect it is true that we shall have
such priests as we pray for. Surely, we do not get rid of the responsibility
for the service in God’s Kingdom by this prayer. Through our struggle for holiness
that consists in love, we all have to support getting people closer to Christ.
The great need of
priests and deacons, order brothers and sisters, and especially missionaries,
has to meet with the great response of our prayer: ask the master of the harvest. In
this time of priestly ordinations and moving priests in the diocese, let us be
united in the petition: Lord, grant your Church ministers who would carry Jesus
to people and people to Jesus!
Proste Pána žatvy

Téma evanjelia hovorí o čase žatvy, ktorú teraz čoskoro
očakávame v našej krajine práve teraz. Žatva je zavŕšením práce
roľníka. Žatva v biblickej reči značí Posledný súd, kde sa
definitívne vyhodnotí náš život.
Čas prítomnosti Ježiša Krista je časom milosti a nemôže sa premeškať.
Priblížilo sa Božie kráľovstvo. Lež blízko je už aj zavŕšenie
- bude žatva - súd.
Žatva závisí od starostlivosti roľníkov o úrodu. Treba konať,
aby že by nezničilo obilie, aby nezahynuli ľudia. Preto treba, aby
Pán poslal robotníkov na svoju žatvu.
Pán Ježiš sa naplno venoval svojmu spasiteľskému poslaniu: chodil,
učil, robil znamenia, odpúšťal hriechy a uzdravoval. Ako Dobrý
Pastier s láskou hľadel na zástupy: ľudí unavených lež plných
očakávania. Náš Pán vnímal tváre nielen svojich súčasníkov (ľudí
žijúcich pred dvetisíc rokmi v Galileji), ale videl i ľudí všetkých
čias prajúc si ponúknuť im spásu. Preto si vyvolil svojich apoštolov
a učeníkov, ktorých poslal pokračovať v svojom diele.
Hovoril o potrebe modlitby za robotníkov žatvy, čo bezprostredne
predchádzalo vyvoleniu apoštolov. Vyvolenie apoštolov je vlastne to, čo
svätopisec opísal ako zľutovanie sa Pána Ježiša nad zástupom.
Zľutovanie
sa nad zástupom predchádzajúce ustanoveniu apoštolov nám pripomína ešte iné
zľutovanie, ktoré poznáme z Markovho evanjelia – zľutovanie sa
Pána Ježiša nad hladným zástupom, ktorý zázračne nasýtil naznačiac
tak tajomstvo Eucharistie. Obidvoje tieto udalosti Pánovho zľutovania spolu
súvisia. Pán Ježiš totiž chce, aby medzi
jeho ľudom nikdy nechýbali služobníci, ktorí by ľudí
privádzali k stretnutiu s Ním v Eucharistii.
Je
veľa pokrstených, ktorý však žijú v duchovnej a morálnej
ľahostajnosti, vzdialení od Slova a sviatostí, ktoré sú základom
kresťanského života. Naša sekulárna doba, v ktorej Boh stratil svoje
prvé miesto, volá po vyššom zmysle. Bez Krista sa nedá plnohodnotne žiť,
iba živoriť. Denne nás sužuje zlo, ktoré zakúšame. Medzi ľuďmi
panuje sebectvo, nevraživosť, pôžitkárstvo. Najmä však vládne
existenciálna neistota, spôsobenou tým, že nespokojné je srdce
človeka bez Boha, lebo stále platí, že stvorenie
túžobne vzdychá, kým sa zjavia Boží synovia. Kto ale týmto ľuďom
ukáže cestu, kto povie pravdu, kto ich privedie k zdroju života?
Potrebujeme
posvätných služobníkov, ktorí sú vysvätení, aby živili Cirkev Božím
Slovom a Kristovou milosťou.
My všetci sme vyzvaní vnášať do modlitby starosť
o spoluprácu na Božom pláne: „Proste Pána žatvy, aby poslal robotníkov
na svoju žatvu.“ V tomto ohľade je pravdivé príslovie: „Takých kňazov budeme mať,
akých si vymodlíme.“ Samozrejme, touto modlitbou sa nezbavujeme zodpovednosti
za službu v Božom kráľovstve, lebo svojou snahou o svätosť,
ktorá spočíva v láske, máme každý napomáhať priblíženiu
ľudí ku Kristovi.
Veľká potreba kňazov a diakonov,
rehoľných bratov a sestier, a osobitne misionárov sa má
stretnúť s našou veľkou odpoveďou modlitby: prosiť
Pána žatvy. V tomto čase kňazských vysviacok a času
presunu kňazov v diecéze sa zjednoťme v prosbe: Pane, daj svojej
Cirkvi služobníkov, ktorí by privádzali Ježiša k ľuďom
a ľudí bližšie k Ježišovi!
