Youth Group News Update
Bible Study
The teen Bible study on the book of Exodus will continue in November and
December. The dates for the meetings are November 1, 8, 15 and December 6 and
13. All meetings will be one hour in length and take place in room 117 at
7:00PM. If any youth would like to join, there is still time to do so.
Walleyball/Basketball
We will be playing Walleyball and Basketball at the Warren Racquetball and
Fitness Center on Saturday November 10th from 10AM-Noon. The cost is $10.00 and
will include lunch. All teens will need to have a signed waiver to play. The
waivers can be picked up at the youth Bible study sessions or in the parish
office. The Warren Racquetball and Fitness Center is located at 29901 South
Civic Center Boulevard, which is just off Van Dyke across from the GM Tech
Center, in Warren.
One of the first important actions that needs to be done will be to form a core group of parents and young adults who would be willing to volunteer some of their time to help the youth group coordinator in promoting, leading, and organizing some of the activities. It is important to have a core group of leaders who would meet once a month to evaluate past events, as well as to brainstorm and plan for future ones.
Youth Group Bible Study
Building off the wonderful overview we learned from last year's T3 Bible
Timeline, I will be offering a 6 week course for the youth on the book of
Exodus. The purpose will be to interact with this important Biblical book in a
fun, yet worthwhile way. The parish will be purchasing the study guides for
the teens, which need to be picked up by the teens in the parish office. All teens are welcome to
join us. The only thing that is also needed is a Bible. There are a number of
Catholic youth Bibles, one that I recommend is produced by Fireside Catholic
Publishers and is called "Fireside Catholic Youth Bible". It can be purchased at
one of the local Catholic bookstores, as well as online at: www.firesidecatholic.com/ .
Youth Holy Hour
One of the other events that will be starting up in the near future is a monthly
youth Holy Hour. For this Eucharistic Holy Hour, I would like to encourage any
youth who are interested in playing music, singing, lectoring, or serving as
altar boys to please contact me. This event will be open for not only teens, but
their parents and other family members. A social will follow the Holy Hour.
With these two foundational monthly activities, there will also be the occasional service opportunity, sports, and trips, like the March for Life in Washington DC. Again, our goal is to gradually introduce these elements over the next few months. As many of you know, our parish is blessed with many youth who are active in their faith.
If you are interested in being a part of the youth ministry program here at
Ss. Cyril's or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tim
McCormick, youth group coordinator at 586-808-9100 or
mccormickt@macomb.edu.
