PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
Ss. Cyril & Methodius Parish is a Roman Catholic Slovak Community
that welcomes all who wish to learn about, embrace and actively practice the Roman Catholic Religion.
As a “family of families”, we are dedicated to the propagation and deepening of our Catholic faith.
This is facilitated through the teaching of, and adherence to,
the Magisterium and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church.

Fr. Hardon’s Home-study Adult Catechism Courses – These courses are part of the requirements for anyone interested in becoming a Marian Catechist. You are encouraged to buy your study materials in advance if you wish to study ahead of time. Please call Eternal Life at 1-800-842-2871 for study materials. If two of you are taking the course, let them know so they can give you an additional answer booklet for a modest fee. Non-parishioners are invited to join.

Frassati Society – This group is based on the life and example of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. It is for active, young adults 18 years and older who are interested in participating in recreational and social activities, while exploring and growing in understanding of the Catholic Faith.

Friends of the Abbey Ministry – Reaches out to establish relationships and develop friendships with our lonely brothers and sisters in the Abbey Nursing Home in Warren (12 Mile between Hoover & Schoenherr).

Jail Ministry – Visits our brothers and sisters who are incarcerated; provides hope, guidance and peace.

Legion of Mary – A lay apostolate of men and women composed of active and auxiliary members. Auxiliary members pray for the active members through the daily rosary and Tessera. Active members perform various spiritual works of mercy in addition to a weekly meeting.

Married Couples Evening of Reflection – Spend an evening spiritually strengthening your marriage. Features guest speakers and socializing with your fellow parishioners.

Men’s Club – Men, 18 years and older, meet to socialize and also organize parish functions such as pancake breakfasts, fish fries, parish festival, etc.

Pro-Life Ministry – Informs parishioners about activities that help to defend human life from conception to natural death, supports existing pro-life organizations, offers various forms of participation in pro-life activities and coordinates them on a parish level.

Rosary-making Class – Learn how to make handmade knotted cord or plastic bead rosaries. Rosaries are prepared for missions or personal use.

Rosary Society – A women’s group that prays together and organizes and/or helps at certain parish functions (e.g. parish festival, bake sales, salad luncheon, rummage sales, etc.). Also operates as Altar Society (decoration of church, sacristy, washing of altar linens, etc.).
Meeting Time: 1st Saturday of each month in the Parish Hall, after the 9:00 am Holy Mass and rosary.

Senior’s Club – Offers a good time for anyone over 55. Begins with the 9:00 am Holy Mass, followed by the rosary. Continues with coffee and cake, cards and games.

Usher’s Club – Consists of male members of the parish who assist in the orderly procession of the general flow of traffic within the church and the collection of any monies. Also includes those who assist as Extraordinary Ministers in the parish.

Welcoming Committee – Extends friendship and fellowship to new families who join Ss. Cyril & Methodius Parish. Members visit new parishioners, share information about the parish, organize and host an annual welcoming reception for new parishioners.

Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima – Meets for the Rosary, Holy Mass, and Procession with the statue of Our Lady of Fatima and for spiritual discussions.

Catholics in the Public Square – Catholics in the Public Square (CPS) is an organization of faithful lay Catholics formed in response to Pope John Paul II’s impassioned outreach to the laity, which he so eloquently expresses in his encyclicals. CPS is dedicated to be an instrument for building a civilization of love based on the inherent dignity of every human being.

Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary (St. Louis-Marie de Montfort Method) – The spiritual program that our Holy Father, John Paul II, used to consecrate himself to Jesus through Mary. The Holy Father encourages all Catholics to do the same. Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church is the Center for this consecration.

Divine Mercy Holy Hour – As part of the Wednesday Eucharistic Adoration in the Chapel, a Chaplet to the Divine Mercy is recited.

Eucharistic Adoration – Come visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, “Who gives Himself to us in the Eucharist as the expression of Infinite Love, the mystery of our faith, the fountain of our Christian life …” (The Holy Father, San Pablo Airport)
Meeting Time: Every Wednesday from the 9:00 am Holy Mass until evening Benediction (starting at 7:15 pm) and every 1st Friday between 9:00 am and Noon Holy Masses.
Beginning in October: Wednesdays from the end of the 9:00 am Holy Mass until Benediction at 7:15 pm.
Plans are underway for Perpetual Adoration Chapel upon building completion.

Holy Hour of Reparation on First Fridays/Sacred Heart of Jesus Devotion – The Sacred Heart of Jesus said to St. Margaret Mary, “Make reparation for the ingratitude of men. Spend an hour in prayer to appease divine justice, to implore mercy to sinners, to honor Me, to console Me for My bitter suffering when abandoned by My Apostles, when they did not WATCH ONE HOUR WITH ME.”

Holy Name Society – Open to all men and boys who desire to profess, publicly, reverence for the Holy Name of Jesus.
Meeting Time: Observes 2nd Sunday of every month as Holy Name Sunday. Meets at the 7:30 am Sunday Holy Mass (and prays and lives the Holy Name Pledge).

Holy Trinity Apostolate – Holy Trinity Apostolate is a lay organization, faithful to Holy Mother Church and obedient to the Magisterium, dedicated to bringing the “Splendor of Truth” of the Roman Catholic Church to light through the media of radio, television, conferences and other means of public communication as directed by Vatican Council II. We are guided by the Most Holy Trinity through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Little Souls Prayer Group – This apostolate, established in 1985, prays for priests, seminarians and vocations. The Little Souls follow the “little way” spirituality of St. Theresa, “The Little Flower”.

Marian Movement of Priests Cenacle for Laity – Consists of the Holy Rosary, Holy Sacrifice of the Mass (for the souls in purgatory), and concludes with the Stations of the Cross (for the souls in purgatory). The Sacrament of Confession is also available. The continuation of this valuable source of grace is sanctioned and encouraged by Cardinal Adam Maida.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Devotion – Novena prayed to Mary, our most powerful helper before the throne of God. Her dignity of Mother of God, her ardent charity, and the fact that Jesus gave her to us as Mother, enable her to obtain for us through her intercession more than all the angels and saints can obtain.

Pro-Life Rosary – This rosary, dedicated to Pro-Life, starts with the Joyful, Luminous and Sorrowful mysteries before Mass and concludes with the Glorious mysteries after the Holy Mass.

St. Monica Sodality – This group prays for family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and civic leaders to return to full practice of the Catholic faith.

Stations of the Cross –
Meeting Time: During Lent, every Wednesday at 8:30 am before 9:00 am Holy Mass and every Friday at 6:30 pm before the 7:00 pm Holy Mass or Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction.
Touch of Mary Prayer Group – This group prays for the intentions of the Blessed Mother for the conversion of all Her children, reparation for all of our sins and for peace in our hearts, homes and the entire world. There is a homebound ministry for those who are unable to attend. The group meets at St. Lucy Parish, 200 East Wattles, Troy, Michigan on Wednesday. The rosary begins at 6:15 pm with the Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries. Confession starts at 7:00 pm followed by the Holy Mass at 7:30 pm. The evening concludes with Benediction (including Consecration, Chaplet of the Divine Mercy, prayers for Priests and prayers for the poor souls in Purgatory) and fellowship.

HOMESCHOOLER ACTIVITIES
Art Class – Taught by Don West for children ages 8 and up ($10 per student/per session). Students complete a drawing at each class with step-by-step instructions and demonstrations.

Drawing Classes – Taught by Kelly Hudson, Drawing I and Drawing II classes are being offered to students ages 10-13 and 14-18. The goal is to teach the students the basics of drawing, while helping them to see the beauty of God’s creation and bring that to life in their own way.

SLOVAK HERITAGE
Annual Slovak Festival – Enjoy the sights, sounds and customs of Slovakia at the Annual Slovak Festival held the weekend after Labor Day Weekend. Festival features delicious traditional foods, drinks, music, costumes, singing and dancing, along with games of chance for the adults and games of fun for the children. Everyone is invited.
